Jean Cate is a Chicago based artist who owns Martha Mae: Arts Supplies and Beautiful Things. She was trained at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in painting and drawing although she also works in ceramics. Her paintings are most often made on a large scale, where layers of watercolors and ink build upon the exposed grain of birchwood panels. Two of her paintings were recently seen in the Steve Mcqueen film, Widows.
