Jean Cate uses the traditional drawing technique of silverpoint to render these delicate still life depictions of vegetables in this series. A type of metalpoint used by scribes, artists, and craftspeople since ancient times, the silverpoint mark-making process involves dragging a silver wire or rod across a surface prepped with gesso. In Cate’s intricate drawing of radishes, she focuses on specific parts of the radishes with incredible detail while leaving other areas not fully articulated with only a suggestion of the forms.
