In the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Western North Carolina, Brian and Gail Mccarthy arrived in Ashville to participate in an artists collective on the banks of the Swannanoa River. This was in 1979. They never left. They started blending clay, the business expanded, the product became more refined, more plastic, better to handle. They opened another branch in Florida, sponsored community arts spaces, and started a line of tools and glaze. The clay they blend is renowned for good handling, variety and quality earth.
