The first in Mark and Fold's signature notebook series, which they developed in response to the request for a ‘perfect notebook for every day.’
Ota-bound using thread-sewing and a small amount of cold glue, to retain flexibility in the spine; the result is as durable as it is elegant. The book simply falls open flat when placed on a surface for writing.
Pages in Naturalis Vanilla Smooth, milled on the banks of the River Leven in Scotland, is remarkably smooth on both sides. End papers in Colorplan, made in the Lake District. Cover in Wild Black, which is made from 35% cotton fibres, develops a great patina with use. Thumbcut motif in copper foil, and blind deboss.
Launched in 2015, Mark and Fold specializes in small batch editions of stationery and hand numbered notebooks. Each line celebrates a specific material or binding technique and yet the overall effect is stark, sort of like the beauty of an empty page. As they put it, they try to leave the design, “as blank as possible”. Mark and Fold believes that stationery is something to put ideas into, so they let the materials speak for themselves. Made and sourced in the Uk, unless an extraordinary material calls out from Japan or elsewhere.
