This nutria or South American coypu is drawn in graphite by Jean Cate. One of several models in the shop menagerie, this nutria is our humble protector of ceramic tools and water-soluble crayons. Here, the animal is on its hind legs, as if poised while collecting twigs and brush to build a raft, a craft of which they are capable. The drawing is soft and mischievous as if the nutria can foresee the enjoyment of a boat ride.
