MD Cotton Letter Pad

Midori’s thoughtfully minimal letter pad is carefully crafted to both create a superbly comfortable writing experience and provide a sophisticated aesthetic. The use of blank space on the letter pad heightens the effect of the paper’s pleasing cotton texture- a softness that feels like it is infused with air. The letter pad is designed in Midori’s own unique size, measuring to 8.3” x 6.6,” believed by Midori to be the perfect size to provide comfort when writing letters. Midori selected the size by calculating the average handwriting size used by Japanese people when writing letters, and ruled the lines at just the right length for natural line breaks. The lines are spaced at 9.5mm- wide enough for you to write comfortably and with ease, with plenty of blank space around the text to make each finished letter look unique and beautiful. The lines themselves are a refined light grey that will provide a guide for your writing without being too obtrusive. The pad is designed to pair perfectly with Midori's Cotton Envelope set.

Since the 1950’s Midori has been asking themselves, “How can we update and hone the comfort of writing?” Part of their answer lay in using broad leafed trees with softer pulp rather than conifers. Another part came through using filtered river water rather than treated water. Yet another was to take away the cover from the notebook, which often makes notebooks harder to open and decreases the comfort of writing. Instead they use a cheesecloth tape, often found on the inside of book bindings. Every stage of production is monitored by the human hand. How does the pulp feel immersed in water? How does the page feel when you run your hands across it? How does the pen feel as it slides over the paper?
