Minimal in its approach, this painting suggests a landscape or cloudscape with soft washes of color and sparse gesture. The wood grain integrates with the paint making the world of this piece lush and luminous. It has a palette of cream, mauve and foggy blue. Watercolor and gouache on a raw birch wood panel with a raw bass wood cradle.

Jean Cate is a Chicago based artist and owner of Martha Mae: Art Supplies & Beautiful Things and The Center of Order of Experimentation. She studied painting, drawing and ceramics at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
