Luscious, vibrantly-colored Chiyogami papers are hand-printed using the silk-screen technique. In this laborious process each color is applied using a separate screen. Sometimes as many as 12 colors, including gold or other metallics, may be used to create a single pattern. Because we source chiyogami from different studios, the full paper size may vary, but the patterned area is always 24Ó x 36Ó surrounded by an unprinted border on all sides.
Designs are sold as a 38 x 26" roll.
Nancy Jacobi started selling Japanese paper out of the back of her car in the early 1980’s, the Japanese Paper Place has expanded into a distributor of several thousand different kinds of Japanese papers. Their mission is to spread the beauty and creative potential of traditional, handmade Japanese paper.
