Palette of Petals: A Botanical Cake Decorating and Watercolor Workshop | September 6th @ Martha Mae Studio

Decorate your cake, and paint it too, with Martha Mae and Emily Spurlin. 

Join artist and Martha Mae founder Jean Cate and pastry chef Emily Spurlin for an intimate in-person cake decorating and watercolor workshop at the Martha Mae Studio in Chicago, IL on Saturday, September 6th from 10AM-12:30PM. 

Emily Spurlin combines her pastry expertise and connection to nature in her whimsical, colorful bakes. Focusing on seasonal produce, natural colors, botanical flavors, and floral elements, Emily's bakes are a canvas to tell a story. During this workshop, you'll use cake as one of your creative canvases. 

Each guest will receive a miniature frosted cake at their station. Emily will demonstrate and teach you how to decorate your cake with fresh flowers, natural elements, and touches of frosting. Create the botanical cake of your dreams alongside other art and food enthusiasts! 

Following Emily's cake portion of the workshop, you will move into a watercolor tutorial with Jean. Study the cake you just designed, before transferring it to the page as a watercolor portrait. Choose to paint your entire cake or focus on one of the beautiful, seasonal flowers you decorated with. 

Guests will enjoy coffee/tea and treats from Emily Spurlin to snack on during the workshop. You will take home your decorated cake to enjoy with your friends and family, as well as your watercolor portrait. 

All necessary materials will be provided for your painting session. Additionally, explore the curated selection of Martha Mae favorites available for purchase in the studio to enhance your creative toolkit.

This workshop is open to beginners or seasoned painters! Please note that this is an in-person event at the Martha Mae Studio (1727 W Grand Ave, Chicago, IL 60622) on September 6th from 10am-12:30pm, with convenient street parking available. The studio is located on the second floor with only stairs available. We can't wait to see you there!

* Please note that watercolor paints to be taken home are not included in the ticket price. They can be purchased at the workshop if you'd like to bring them home.
