Private Workshops

Looking for a group activity that is educational, thoughtful, and enjoyable? We can assist!

Jean Cate, artist and owner of Martha Mae: Art Supplies & Beautiful Things and The Center of Order and Experimentation, will guide your group through watercolor lessons, demonstrations, and hands-on assistance. Having led workshops, retreats, and private lessons, Jean is skilled at teaching beginners, hobbyists, and artists alike.

Jean received her BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago with focuses in painting, drawing, printmaking, and ceramics. She also studied papermaking, philosophy, and performance at Ox-Bow School of Art & Artists' Residency in Saugatuck, MI. She has taught at institutions including the Driehaus Museum and Ghost Ranch. Cate has been featured in solo exhibitions at VSG Contemporary and Caroline, and has attracted commercial recognition through a licensing deal with Crate & Barrel.

Your private watercolor workshop can be customized to your group’s needs and interests. Depending on group size, we can host at our West Town studio or we can travel to your space.

All workshops come with all necessary materials and subject matter for the students to study and paint.
