A traditional oil ground made with Basic Lead Carbonate and marble dust for the desired amount of tooth and absorbency, with a slight amount of Titanium White added to improve opacity and brightness. Ground in 100% alkali-refined linseed oil. Contains no zinc or alkyd.

Carl Plansky was always interested in the relationship of pigments to binders. He collected old world paint recipes and read about mineral rich veins buried in landscapes across the world. In the 1980’s, his hobby turned into a company because of increased demand among his friends and fellow artists in Williamsburg, Brooklyn for his paint. Demand grew to love and obsession. Those who use Williamsburg paint know that pigment qualities are revealed by the specific grind of each mineral. Although Plansky died in 2009, and Williamsburg is now owned by Golden, the finesse and care to bring out every color remains the same.
