A red so deep and bluish that it’s called purple. Very heavy, with extreme covering power. Each color is milled in small batches to bring out the best qualities of the pigment used.

Carl Plansky was always interested in the relationship of pigments to binders. He collected old world paint recipes and read about mineral rich veins buried in landscapes across the world. In the 1980’s, his hobby turned into a company because of increased demand among his friends and fellow artists in Williamsburg, Brooklyn for his paint. Demand grew to love and obsession. Those who use Williamsburg paint know that pigment qualities are revealed by the specific grind of each mineral. Although Plansky died in 2009, and Williamsburg is now owned by Golden, the finesse and care to bring out every color remains the same.
