Traditional Japanese water colors in bright, tonally surprising colors. Each watercolor block comes in an individual tray that can be removed from the palette during use. The underside of the box lid features a color chart that you can fill in yourself using the actual watercolors so that you can see exactly how they will appear when used.
Kuretake was established in 1902 in Nara Japan, a company rooted in the small black sumi ink sticks needed for calligraphy. Each stick is a dry pigment concentrate that needs to be ground slowly on a wet stone to make hydrated ink. They focused on this product for half a century until they developed a stable liquid sumi ink in 1958. This innovation led to others and the company has carried over it’s diligence with sumi to watercolors, pens, and new ink recipes.
