Midori A5 Thick Notebook

This notebook is made with MD PAPER Thick, a thicker paper that provides all the same comfort as the standard MD Notebook with extra protection from bleed-through. This paper is designed to handle hard pressing, thick lines and dark colors. MD PAPER Thick is around twice as thick as standard MD PAPER, providing further protection against ink bleeding through or being visible from the other side of the page. Whether you’re using paint, markers or a calligraphy pen, this paper is robust enough to absorb it. Codex binding with an exposed thread-stitched spine allows you to get the best from the thick paper. Every page from start to finish opens out flat, so that nothing is distracting you when you write or draw.

Since the 1950’s Midori has been asking themselves, “How can we update and hone the comfort of writing?” Part of their answer lay in using broad leafed trees with softer pulp rather than conifers. Another part came through using filtered river water rather than treated water. Yet another was to take away the cover from the notebook, which often makes notebooks harder to open and decreases the comfort of writing. Instead they use a cheesecloth tape, often found on the inside of book bindings. Every stage of production is monitored by the human hand. How does the pulp feel immersed in water? How does the page feel when you run your hands across it? How does the pen feel as it slides over the paper?
